Four words for one appliance
Liebherr wine coolers, wine cabinets, wine fridges, wine refrigerators — four names, one kind of appliance, and this page covers all of them. Which word you arrived with says nothing about what has failed, so it does not matter; what the cabinet is doing does.
Eleven cabinets, and the number of zones is the first question
Six of the wine cabinets in the current US line hold two temperature zones, three hold three, and two are a single zone throughout. That matters more than the size of the cabinet: separate zones mean separate control, so a zone that has drifted while the others hold is a smaller problem than a cabinet that has lost cold everywhere, and it says where to look.

Three things wine refrigeration does that food refrigeration does not
- Holds a chosen temperature rather than the coldest one. Serving and storage are different numbers, and a cabinet set for serving is doing its job at a temperature that would be a problem in a fridge.
- Manages humidity instead of removing it. A dried cork lets air in, and that damage is done long before the wine is opened.
- Keeps vibration and daylight off the bottle. Which is why noise and a failing door seal are worth a call here at a point where they would still be tolerable elsewhere.

Humidity is the local variable. A cabinet in a kitchen that opens to outside spends the summer working against wet air, and the first thing to give is the door seal — which costs temperature stability before it costs anything else, and is the least expensive thing on the appliance to put right.

How cold should wine refrigeration actually be?
It depends what the zone is for, which is the whole reason cabinets have more than one. A serving zone for white and a serving zone for red sit at different temperatures, and both sit well above a food refrigerator; a long-storage zone sits between them and never moves. A cabinet holding a serving temperature is not broken for being warmer than the fridge in your kitchen. Before assuming something is wrong, read what each zone is SET to and compare it with what it is READING — a great many calls end there.
Why does a wine cabinet care about humidity when a refrigerator does not?
Because a cork dries out. A food refrigerator is designed to pull moisture out of the air; wine refrigeration is designed to hold it at a level that keeps a cork swollen and sealed. That is a different job for the same-looking hardware, and it is why a cabinet that has started drying — corks receding, labels lifting, condensation gone entirely — is worth a call even while the temperature reads correctly.
Does vibration really matter, or is that marketing?
It matters enough that the cabinets are built for it, and it is the reason a wine cabinet that has begun to buzz or rattle should not simply be lived with. A compressor mount that has aged, a fan touching, a cabinet that has shifted in its opening — each is a small repair on its own and each puts a constant tremor through the shelving. The bottles are the reason the noise is worth attending to rather than tuning out.
One zone is right and another is not. Is the whole cabinet failing?
Almost never, and this is the single most useful thing you can tell us when you book. A multi-zone cabinet has separate control over each zone: one zone off while the others hold points at that zone — its sensor, its fan, its damper — rather than at the refrigeration serving the whole cabinet. It is a smaller repair than the phrase "the wine cabinet has failed" suggests.
