It depends on the appliance. Inside the fresh food compartment on a refrigerator, usually high on the left or right wall. On the edge of the door on a dishwasher.     Cold is moved, not only made

    Refrigerator not cooling

    The cabinet is running and the temperature is wrong. On a NoFrost appliance that is far more often airflow or the defrost circuit than the compressor — which matters, because those are different orders of money.

    The compartment is above where it should be, and on this make the appliance usually says so first: the temperature display and the alarm LED flash together until whatever caused it has been put right.

Is a twenty-year-old unit still worth repairing?

Usually, yes. These were built to be repaired, and a legacy cabinet in good condition with sound cabinetry is worth keeping. Where it stops being worth it is when the work approaches what the unit is worth, or when a second major failure is already visible — and we will say so on the visit rather than after.

Can you still get parts for the older units?

For most of what fails, yes — OEM parts are available on order, though legacy parts can take a few days to source. That is why we confirm a part is the problem before ordering it rather than after.

Why do you not list the specifications for each model?

Because we cannot verify them. Capacity, dimensions and production years published second-hand are wrong often enough that a table of them would be a liability, and inventing one would break our own rule about publishing only what we can stand behind. What we do publish is what the number means for the repair.

The number on my unit has letters after it. Does that matter?

Yes, for parts. The digits identify the family; the letters identify the configuration, and two units sharing the same digits can take different components. Photograph the whole plate and we will read it from there.

About these model numbers

Where your Liebherr model number is, and why the list looks the way it does

The plate is inside the cabinet, on the left-hand side, and it carries three numbers rather than one: a Type Designation, a Service Number and an Appliance or Serial Number. The maker asks for all three together, and most people photograph whichever looks most like a model number — which is usually the least conclusive of the three on its own. Cabinets that look identical behind matching cabinet fronts are frequently different generations taking different parts, and the Service Number is what tells them apart.

The list on this page is the current US line as the maker publishes it: 68 models — 52 refrigerators, 11 wine coolers and 5 freezer columns. It was read from the maker’s own sitemap rather than assembled from memory, and what counts as a domestic appliance is decided by each page’s own breadcrumb. That matters more here than on other makes, because Liebherr also builds mining equipment, mobile and maritime cranes and laboratory refrigeration — of 1,626 US product pages, only 124 are refrigeration at all and 45 of those are professional cabinets that have no place in a kitchen.

Two things about the numbering are worth knowing. The web address is not the model number for this market — a cabinet at /p/ecbn-8870 is sold in the States as HCB 2090G, so a number copied out of a URL will not match your plate. And six of the maker’s own product pages name two models at once, because Side-by-Side pairs are sold as a unit; here they are listed separately, since each column carries its own plate and only one of them is usually the one that stopped.

Ten of these cabinets are Monolith, which is the only line the maker names on its own US pages: the MRB refrigerators, the MF freezer columns and the MW wine coolers. It is a line rather than a different machine — it changes the cabinetry and the interior, not the refrigeration — so it changes what a visit looks like rather than what it costs.
