Six pages, and they do not fail alike

68 machines in the current US line, and what goes wrong depends far less on the badge than on what the cabinet is asked to hold. Pick yours.

  • A tall fully integrated refrigerator column standing open in a near-black kitchen, its own cabinet front on the door, cold interior light on glass shelves holding a few plain containers and vegetables, dark stone worktop to the left and warm amber under-cabinet light beyond.

    Liebherr refrigerator repair in Miami

Fifty-two refrigerators in the current US line, and most of them are built into the kitchen rather than standing in it: twenty-six bottom-freezer cabinets, ten fully integrated behind your own cabinet fronts, ten Side-by-Side pairs and five French-door. Tell us which one you have and what it is doing, and whether it is paneled — that decides how the visit is planned.

    • Not cold enough, or cold in one compartment only
    • An error number in the display, F1 to F5
    • Ice on the rear wall — usually normal, and worth knowing why
    Refrigerator repair
  • A tall fully integrated freezer column standing open in a near-black kitchen run, seen straight on: four clear drawers pulled to different depths on their runners, wrapped frozen packets standing on edge inside them, cold blue-white light and a haze of vapour spilling over the lower drawer, dark stone worktop and amber under-cabinet light to one side.
    Fully integrated columns

    Liebherr freezer repair in Miami

Five freezers in the current US line, every one of them a fully integrated column built into the joinery. They are frequently half of a Side-by-Side pair, which means a freezer that has stopped and a refrigerator that is fine can be two separate machines behind two matching doors.

    • Two dashes in the display instead of a temperature
    • The power-failure light on after an outage
    • Alarm sounding and the temperature display flashing

  • A continuous run of near-black kitchen joinery with two tall fully integrated refrigeration columns side by side behind matching cabinet fronts, one door standing slightly open with cold interior light spilling out, dark stone worktop and warm amber light above.

Liebherr Monolith column repair in Miami

Monolith is the line Liebherr names for its fully integrated columns, and ten cabinets in the current US catalog carry it: MRB 2400, MRB 3010 and MRB 3600 on the refrigerator side, MF 1851, MF 2461, MF 3051 and MF 3661 on the freezer side, and MW 1810, MW 2400 and MW 2401 for wine. The refrigeration inside is the refrigeration in the rest of the range. What is different is that the cabinet is part of your joinery, and that is what changes about the visit.

    • A column that carries your own cabinet front
    • Access planned before the visit, not discovered during it
    • Same sealed system, same parts, same five-year position

Liebherr wine refrigeration repair in Miami

Wine refrigeration is not food refrigeration set warmer. It holds a temperature you chose rather than the coldest one available, it manages humidity instead of driving it out, and it is built to keep vibration and daylight away from the bottle. Liebherr builds eleven of them for the US — three with three zones, six with two, two with a single zone throughout — and knowing which one you have is most of the diagnosis.

    • One zone drifting while the others hold
    • Warmer than a fridge on purpose — and how to tell wrong from set
    • Humidity, vibration and light, which food cabinets ignore

The tall cabinets — the ones that stand in the run of the kitchen or behind your own panel, hold a hundred bottles or more and divide themselves into two or three zones. Nine of the eleven Liebherr wine cabinets in the current US line are multi-zone, and three of those are Monolith columns. On a cabinet this size the door, the seal and the alignment matter as much as the refrigeration, because there is a great deal of cold glass and a great deal of Miami air.

    • Zones that no longer agree with each other
    • A glass door that has stopped sealing along its length
    • Presentation shelving, lighting and locks

Undercounter · single zone · built into the run

Liebherr wine fridge repair in Miami

The undercounter kind — the one that lives under the worktop beside the dishwasher drawer, holds a few dozen bottles and usually runs a single temperature throughout. It is also the word most people use for every one of these appliances, so if you arrived typing wine fridge and you own a tall two-zone cabinet, everything here still applies and the cabinet pages go further.

    • Not cooling, or cooling and never stopping
    • Warm at the top and right at the bottom

The thing that decides most of these visits

Built in or standing free is a bigger difference than the model.

Ten of the fifty-two refrigerators in this line are fully integrated behind your own cabinet fronts, and every one of the five freezers is. Ten more are Side-by-Side pairs set into a continuous run — two separate appliances, two plates, two model numbers, behind two matching doors.

That decides how a cabinet comes out, how long the appointment runs, whether there is plumbing in the picture and how many people come. It is the first thing we ask about and the last thing worth guessing, which is why the integrated panel and column refit is priced as its own job rather than absorbed into another one.

What each repair costs
A full-height integrated refrigeration column set into dark joinery, its own cabinet front matching the run either side, seen slightly from the side so the depth of the housing is visible.

What this maker does differently

BioFresh, Monolith, and cabinets with three zones.

BioFresh holds a compartment close to freezing at a controlled humidity, separately from the rest of the refrigerator — so “the fridge is fine but the drawer is not” is a different diagnosis from a cabinet that has lost cold everywhere.

Monolith is the line the maker names on its own US pages: three refrigerators, four freezer columns and three wine cabinets, and it has a page of its own. A line rather than a different machine — it changes the cabinetry and the access, not the refrigeration.

And wine refrigeration holds one, two or three independently controlled zones. One zone drifting while the others hold is a much smaller repair than “the wine cabinet has failed”, and it points straight at where to look. Three pages cover it, because three different words bring people here: wine refrigeration for what these cabinets do differently, wine cabinets for the tall multi-zone ones, wine fridges for the undercounter kind.

Before you book

Four answers that shorten any visit

What you own

  • Which of the six it is — or just what the cabinet looks like.
  • Whether it carries your own cabinet front.
  • Whether there is a second cabinet beside it behind a matching door.

What the plate says

  • Type Designation.
  • Service Number.
  • Appliance / Serial Number.

What it is doing

  • Anything in the display, written down before it clears.
  • What changed, and when.
  • Whether it started after a power cut, a big shop or a kitchen refit.

By the work instead

Or start from what has gone wrong

A door seal on a wine cabinet and a door seal on a freezer column are the same job. If you know what has failed rather than what you own, start here.

  • A technician kneeling beside a tall integrated refrigerator in a dark kitchen, writing on a clipboard, a multimeter resting on the floor beside an open tool roll.
    from $95

    Diagnostic visit

We work out what is actually wrong before anybody quotes a part. On this make that starts with a question most technicians skip: is the appliance reporting a problem, or is it telling you something it was designed to tell you? A flashing display and a sounding alarm are frequently correct behavior. The fee is credited toward the work when you go ahead.

    What this involves
  • A technician kneeling at the base of a tall refrigerator with the lower panel off
    from $185

    Refrigerator cooling and defrost repair

The cabinet runs but does not hold temperature, or holds it in one compartment and not the other. On a NoFrost appliance that is usually the defrost circuit or the airflow rather than the compressor — and telling those apart before ordering anything is the whole job.

    What this involves
  • The machine compartment at the back of a refrigerator with the cover off — compressor, condenser tubing, process valves — a two-gauge manifold in both hands and a vacuum pump beside.
    from $650

    Sealed system repair

Refrigerant work: the compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and the tubing between them. It is licensed work with recovery equipment, it is the most expensive thing that can be wrong with a cold appliance, and it is diagnosed by measurement rather than by elimination.

    What this involves
  • A refrigeration gauge manifold with its two hoses clipped onto the process ports of a compressor in the machine compartment at the back of a refrigerator, the black compressor dome and its copper lines filling the lower frame, a gloved hand on one hose.
    from $850

    Compressor replacement

Sealed-system work plus the compressor itself. It is the largest single job on a cold appliance, and it is worth being certain about before it is quoted — a compressor that is running but not achieving pressure and a compressor that has failed are different diagnoses with different answers.

    What this involves
  • A brush working dust off a coil and fan behind an appliance.
    from $145

    Condenser and airflow service

The maker names ventilation first among the causes for both "motor seems to run too long" and "the temperature is not cold enough". In South Florida a condenser fills faster than anywhere else in the country, and this is the least expensive visit on this page.

    What this involves
  • A close view of the rear interior panel of a freezer compartment removed to expose the evaporator fan and its blade, a gloved hand steadying the panel.
    from $175

    Evaporator fan and running-noise repair

Loud running noise is one of the manual’s own six troubleshooting rows. It is worth taking seriously and it is worth ruling out the free causes first, because two of the three usual answers cost nothing at all.

    What this involves

Not sure which of these you have?

Describe it and we will work it out

Three machines is a short list and cabinets behind matching panels look alike from the outside. Tell us roughly how tall it is, whether it has a freezer drawer at the bottom or a second full-height door beside it, and whether the front is stainless or your own cabinetry. A photograph of the plate inside on the left settles it in one message.

Asked most often

About the equipment itself

Does Liebherr make anything other than refrigeration?

Not for a kitchen. The company also builds mining equipment, mobile and maritime cranes and industrial refrigeration, which is why a search for its error codes turns up numbers that have nothing to do with your appliance. In a home, this maker builds refrigerators, freezers and wine refrigeration, and that is all.

How do I tell a Side-by-Side pair from one appliance?

Open both doors and look inside on the left-hand side of each. Two separate plates with two Type Designations means two appliances, two refrigeration systems and two model numbers — and usually only one of them needs anything.

What is BioFresh, and does it change the repair?

It is a compartment held close to freezing at a controlled humidity, separately from the rest of the refrigerator. It changes the diagnosis rather than the price: a drawer that has stopped holding while the cabinet is otherwise fine points somewhere quite different from a cabinet that has lost cold everywhere.

Is a wine cabinet really a different appliance?

Different enough to have its own page. Multi-zone control, a glass door doing far more work than it looks in this climate, and set points that are supposed to be warmer than a refrigerator. A cabinet reading 62°F is not broken; it is set for red.

In more detail

What Liebherr builds, and what that means for a repair

Three machines is unusual on this fleet — most makes here span a whole kitchen — and it changes what a repair company has to be good at. There are no burners to light, no wash arms to clear, no drums or bearings. What there is: a sealed system, a defrost circuit, fans, sensors, a control board, and doors that either seal or do not. Six things, and almost every visit is one of them.

The second consequence is access. Fifteen of the appliances in the current US line are fully integrated, which on other makes is unusual and here is normal. A cabinet that has to come out of joinery, be reconnected and be aligned back against its neighbors takes time a freestanding unit never does, and pretending otherwise produces quotes that are wrong in the middle of the job.

The third is that this maker documents behavior better than most and decodes its own error numbers not at all. F1 to F5 appear on the display with no published meaning; the door alarm, the temperature alarm, the two dashes and the power-failure record are all described precisely. So on this equipment “what is it doing” beats “what is the code”, which is the opposite of how most appliance sites are organized — and it is why the symptom pages here are longer than the code ones.

Which cabinet, and what is it doing?

Three numbers off the plate and a line about the behavior. You will have the scope and the price in writing before anything is opened.
