Symptom

Liebherr refrigerator not cooling

The cabinet is running and the temperature is wrong. On a NoFrost appliance that is far more often airflow or the defrost circuit than the compressor — which matters, because those are different orders of money.

Six ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

In five minutes

Before you call anybody

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

  1. 01

Unpack the back and the vents

Give it four hours after. This is a real cause and it costs nothing to rule out.

  2. 02

    Paper test every door

Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull. If it slides freely anywhere, the seal is not gripping there. Corners first.

  3. 03

Put a thermometer on the shelf

Not in the door. The number that matters is where the food is.

  4. 04

    Listen for the fan

With the door held closed by hand and the light switch pressed in, you should hear air moving.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “Running but warm”
  • “Warm at the top, right at the bottom”
  • “Slowly drifting rather than suddenly off”
A plain dark ceramic mug and a folded pair of reading glasses on a dark oak table beside a window at dusk, warm interior light.

About Liebherr refrigerator not cooling

The fastest diagnosis is what the appliance is telling you

Put an independent thermometer on the shelf where food is actually spoiling and leave it four hours. What the display says and what the shelf is at are two different facts, and the gap between them is the first real clue anyone gets.

Where cold actually goes wrong

These cabinets make cold in one place and move it to another. Most "not cooling" calls are about the moving rather than the making: a fan, a vent, a defrost circuit that has stopped clearing the evaporator. That is the cheaper half of the diagnosis and the half an honest visit starts with.

The frost that is not a problem

Ice on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment that forms while the compressor runs and clears while it rests is described by the maker as completely normal — condensation freezing, then draining away for evaporation. It is the single most common reason somebody calls about a cabinet with nothing wrong with it.

Questions about liebherr refrigerator not cooling

The freezer is fine but the fridge is warm.

On a Side-by-Side that is two appliances and only one needs us. On a single cabinet it points at the airflow between the compartments or at the damper that controls it, rather than at the refrigeration itself — which is generally the cheaper half of the diagnosis.

It got warm after we did a big shop.

Very likely and temporarily normal. A cabinet loaded with room-temperature food has to remove all that heat, and a cabinet packed tightly cannot move air while it does. Give it a day with the vents clear before assuming anything.

Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?

Ask what has failed first. Airflow, defrost, a fan, a seal or a sensor are ordinary repairs on a cabinet with years left. A sealed-system failure is a different conversation — and on this make, worth checking against the maker's own five-year sealed-system position before anybody quotes.
