Why the board is blamed so often
It is the part that can explain any symptom, which makes it the easiest thing to name and the hardest thing to disprove. On this equipment the honest order is: supply, sensors, the loads the board drives, and only then the board itself — and each of those steps produces a measurement somebody can repeat.

Everything is dead — no display, no light, nothing.
Start at the breaker and the outlet, in that order, because the manual does: is the appliance turned on, is the cord seated, is the breaker or fuse in operating condition. A completely dead cabinet is more often a supply problem than a board, and that check is free.
I was told it needs a new board. Should I get a second opinion?
Ask the first person which input was good and which output was missing. If they can answer, they measured. If the answer is that everything else was ruled out, that is elimination rather than diagnosis, and on the most expensive part of the appliance elimination is not good enough.
