# Liebherr one compartment cold, the other is not

### The fastest diagnosis is what the appliance is telling you

Look for two plates. If there is a Type Designation inside each door, you have two appliances, two refrigeration systems and two model numbers — and only one of them needs anybody.

### The first question is how many appliances you own

Ten of the fifty-two refrigerators in the current line are Side-by-Side combinations — two full-height columns behind matching doors, each with its own refrigeration, its own plate and its own model number. Half a kitchen run failing while the other half is perfect is not a puzzle in that case; it is two machines, and one of them is fine.

It is a Side-by-Side pair

Ten of the refrigerators in this line are sold as paired columns. The working half stays working while the other is repaired, and the number we need is from the half that stopped.

Airflow between compartments

On a single cabinet, cold is shared. A blocked vent or a damper that has stopped will starve one side while the other is perfect.

The defrost circuit on one side

Ice on one evaporator, normal operation on the other.

A sensor on the compartment that is wrong

The control is obeying a number that is not true.

Count the plates

Inside each door, on the left. Two plates means two appliances.

Check the vents between compartments

On a single cabinet, look for anything packed against them.

Thermometer in each compartment

Two numbers are far more useful than one.

Often two appliances, not one problem

What it usually means

Freezer fine, fridge warm

Fridge fine, freezer warm

Two doors, one continuous run of cabinetry

The fastest diagnosis is what the appliance is telling you

Look for two plates. If there is a Type Designation inside each door, you have two appliances, two refrigeration systems and two model numbers — and only one of them needs anybody.

The first question is how many appliances you own

Ten of the fifty-two refrigerators in the current line are Side-by-Side combinations — two full-height columns behind matching doors, each with its own refrigeration, its own plate and its own model number. Half a kitchen run failing while the other half is perfect is not a puzzle in that case; it is two machines, and one of them is fine.

### How do I know if mine is a pair?

Open both doors and look inside on the left-hand side of each. Two separate plates with two Type Designations means two appliances. It is worth knowing before you call, because it changes what we bring and it usually makes the job smaller.

### The freezer works and the fridge does not. Is that a good sign?

On a single cabinet, mostly yes: it tells us the refrigeration is producing cold and something is failing to deliver it to one compartment. That is the cheaper half of the diagnosis.
