### A column is not a freezer drawer

Two dashes mean it is not below freezing yet — three to five hours from a cold start, and after a power failure. A power-failure light means it got warm while the power was off. Neither is a repair.

Then diagnose as cold

Airflow, defrost, fans, sensors, sealed system — in that order, with measurements.

It is working and it is not there yet. That display only shows temperatures below freezing, so dashes mean above. Give it three to five hours from cold — longer in a warm room — and it will show a number. If it is still dashes the next morning, then something is wrong.

Then check the power-failure indicator before you check anything else: it will tell you the highest temperature the compartment reached, which is the number that decides what is safe to keep. The appliance recording that is the appliance working correctly.
