### Why alignment is a repair and not a nicety

Everything a door is for depends on it sitting where it should: the seal grips, the closer pulls it shut, the alarm stays quiet and the cabinet holds its temperature. On integrated appliances there is a second reason — the door is part of the kitchen, and a kitchen shows a millimeter.

On a run of integrated cabinetry the eye finds a millimeter, and the reference is the doors either side rather than the appliance itself.

Check the hinge and the closer

Wear, a loose fixing, or a closer that has lost its assist and is letting the door rest instead of pulling shut.

Check the panel mounting

A heavy custom front on a hinge set for a lighter one is a real and common cause, especially on cabinets whose fronts were changed after installation.

Adjust, then paper-test

Alignment is finished when the seal grips on all four sides, not when it looks right.
