# What an Appliance Service Call Actually Costs in South Florida

## The number, and where it comes from

**How much is a service call for refrigerator repair** in this market? Here is the band and what sits behind it.

The researched market band for an appliance service call in South Florida is roughly **$59 to $129.**

Ours starts at **$95** and is **credited toward the repair** when you go ahead.

That band is a researched market range rather than an average of our own invoices, and we say so rather than implying a precision nobody in this trade actually has.

## What the fee buys

Not "somebody coming to look at it".

- A technician and a **stocked van**, so the common parts for what you described are already there.- **Measurement rather than elimination** — a sensor is a resistance at a known temperature, a fan is a current and an airflow, a sealed system is pressures across a circuit.- A **named cause** and a **written figure** before anything is opened.

The difference between a diagnosis and a guess is whether somebody can tell you what they measured. It is a fair question to ask, and it is the one that separates a $95 visit from a $95 opinion.

## It does not vary by appliance

A wine cooler and a freezer column cost the same to diagnose, because the fee is the trip and the hour rather than the badge on the door.

## Two things that lower what you actually pay

**A second appliance on the same visit.** Travel and setup are the bulk of what a service call costs, so the second and third appliance are far cheaper than the second and third visit. Say what else is in the kitchen when you book, even if only one thing is misbehaving.

**The maker's own warranty.** On a Liebherr the sealed system — compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and connecting tubing — carries five years parts and labor, and parts alone from the sixth through twelfth year. That gets checked **before** anybody quotes, and if the work belongs to the manufacturer we tell you and the visit ends there.

## Why nobody honest quotes a repair over the phone here

On makes that decode their own error numbers, a phone call can narrow a repair to two or three possibilities.

Liebherr does not decode its own numbers. It prints F1 to F5 and its manual asks only that you have the number available when you call. Which means anybody who tells you what your repair costs before seeing it is either quoting a ceiling or guessing.

A band we will give you cheerfully. A number takes a visit.

## What makes a second visit necessary, and how to avoid one

The fee covers a visit that ends in an answer, and the thing that most often turns one visit into two is a part nobody knew would be needed. On this make that is avoidable more often than it is on most, because the plate inside the cabinet carries three numbers rather than one — a Type Designation, a Service Number and a Serial Number — and the middle one is what decides which version of a part fits.

Send a photograph of the whole plate when you book, along with anything showing on the display and a sentence about what the appliance is doing. That is usually enough for the right part to be on the van, and it costs you nothing.

The other avoidable second visit is access. A cabinet fitted into joinery, carrying your own panel and plumbed for water is a different appointment from a freestanding one, and it wants planning rather than discovering. Saying "it is built in and it has our cabinet front on it" when you book changes what we bring and how long is set aside.
